13 Quotes About Prayer

Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful

Colossians 4:2 NIV

Prayer is central, logical, essential, beautiful, important, commanded, life-giving and glorious in the Christian life. And yet so many of us struggle to do it and grow in it, or even know how to start. So we have started prayer gatherings every Tuesday at 7pm to worship and pray and grow in the love of God together.

We want to be a church that is from top to bottom truly devoted to prayer. Here are 13 quotes to encourage us to do just that:

“I have so much to do that I shall spend
the first three hours in prayer.”

MARTIN LUTHER

“If weak in prayer, we are weak everywhere.”

LEONARD RAVENHILL

“Some people think God does not like to be troubled with our constant coming and asking. The way to trouble God is not
to come at all.”

D. L. MOODY

“We cannot all be leaders, but we can all be pleaders; we cannot all be mighty in rhetoric, but we can all be prevalent in prayer.”

CHARLES SPURGEON

“If you are too busy to pray, you are too busy.
Cut something out.”

D. A. CARSON

“Prayer is the greatest act of our day,
and we must fight for it.”

BONNIE McKERNAN

“Prayer is how the loves of our heart are re-ordered so we love God first and everything else second.”

TIMOTHY KELLER

“Always respond to every impulse to pray.”

D. MARTYN LLOYD-JONES

“The only way to endure in prayer when we’re not getting what we want is by the changing of our hearts to want
Christ himself.”

BETHANY JENKINS

“In the long history of Christian spirituality, community prayer is more important, then individual prayer.”

EUGENE PETERSON

“Learning to pray doesn’t offer us a less busy life;
it offers us a less busy heart.”

PAUL MILLER

“To pray is to enter the treasure-house of God and to gather riches out of an inexhaustible storehouse.”

CHARLES SPURGEON

“The key to prayer is simply praying.”

A.W. TOZER

Come and let’s pray together. It’s for everybody. Absolutely no experience required. Tuesdays at 7pm.
