Every month, our Missions team invites us to pray for a different country, region or people group from around the globe.
This month’s prayer focus is Western Europe. The growing proportion of non-Christians in Western Europe reflects a long-term process of secularization, alongside increased economic security, individualism, migration, and social liberalism. Together, these factors have contributed to a declining perceived need for traditional religious belief and practice. While many people in the region continue to identify culturally as Christian, a large and growing proportion are religiously unaffiliated (“nones”) or identify with other faiths.
The total population of Western Europe is approximately 200 million, of whom an estimated 1.4% are Evangelical Christians. Although approximately 56% of the population is still identified as Christian, this figure includes a significant number who identify as Christian primarily in a cultural rather than true saving faith in Christ.
The Missions team invites you to pray for:
- Spiritual awakening and church vitality (Ezekiel 37:9-10)
- Believers to overcome complacency and boldness in sharing the gospel (1 Peter 3:15)
- Unity amongst believers across diverse traditions and cultures (Ephesians 4:4)
- National and local leaders to be granted divine discernment as they navigate economic and social challenges (1 Timothy 2:1-2).
- Strengthening and protection of family values, to be built on biblical values and principles (Mathew 6:10)
