A New Church Home?

We gathered last night for an hour to kick off 5 days of concerted prayer.  We need to hear from the Lord about a new potential church home.  Although we were few in number, there was an overwhelming sense that the Lord was honoured as we sought His face, His direction and His leading.

A large portion of our Parish Council meeting tonight will be devoted to prayer.  Please continue to pray from home, from your offices or wherever you find yourself between now and Friday.  We are praying that we will be able to announce some concrete possibilities by Sunday.

Again, we will gather on Friday at 7pm for a time of prayer in the chapel.  Please plan to attend.

It has become clear that a new church building is not the ultimate goal.  It is the pressing need and opportunity that has driven us corporately to our knees, however, there are bigger things at stake.  Here are just a few:

1) Will we take the time to pray and seek the Lord’s direction, or will we charge ahead on our own?

2) Will we have the courage and faith to pull the trigger, if and when the Lord calls us to do so?

3) Can we envision a future of ministry that effects real gospel change in the city of Burlington, or will we set the ‘finish line’ at the point of securing a permanent home?

The Master is working out these and many more issues in our collective walk.  At times like these I implore you to do one thing.  Pray.  Hard.  Now.

There have been two passages of scripture on my heart:

Enlarge the place of your tent, and let the curtains of your habitations be stretched out; do not hold back; lengthen your cords and strengthen your stakes. For you will spread abroad to the right and to the left, and your offspring will possess the nations and will people the desolate cities. Isaiah 54:3-4

and,

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 1 Thessalonians 16-18
