A Prepared Room

I have spent the last few weeks preparing our unborn son’s new room. I have repaired and painted the walls. Put together the furniture. Scrubbed the baseboards and floor. Planned out the decor. I have been preparing a place for our child.

I am reminded of John 14:1-3

“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.”

As I busy myself preparing a place for my son, so God is preparing a place for you and me. He has a room picked out for each one of us His children. We don’t know fully what it will look like, but we know that it will be glorious and it will be with Jesus. When we pass from this earthly life into our Father’s kingdom we will have a home waiting for us. Our true home. And what he prepares for us will be perfection.

If you feel homeless today, know that Jesus is painstakingly preparing a home for you in heaven. The room I am building for my son is temporary, but the home God is building for us in heaven is eternal.

“For we know that if the tent that is our earthly home is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.” 2 Cor 5:11

What an amazing thought! We all long (maybe without even knowing it) for our eternal home – the place where we were meant to be and with the Person we were meant to be with. Whether you picture a golden city, or a rustic country cottage, know that what God prepares for us will far excede our imaginations. And more importantly, we will dwell with our true and great Father, who always gives good and perfect gifts to His children. James 1:17

For, as it is written, “No eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him”. 1 Cor 2:9
