Where to Set Your Heart Today

As Americans woke up this morning to a new president-elect, Christians woke up to the same faithful and steadfast King and Lord of our true nation; a nation that cannot be shaken and will never fall; a nation that will never be led astray and never be divided. Our King and Lord Jesus is the King of all kings and the Lord of all lords. He has power and authority over all people, all nations, all planets and solar systems. He is the radiance of the glory of God. Today is a perfect day to fix our eyes and our minds and hearts on our true King and rejoice in Him.

Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.

Colossians 3:1-4 NIV

When we set our hearts and minds on Jesus what do we find? Who is this King and Lord of ours? What is His kingdom like? Here are 33 things about our good King (yes, 33, and there are sooo many more). Let’s take time, slow down and think on these things:

  32. He is our hope. (1 Tim 1:1)

  33. He is our great God and Saviour and is coming in glory. (Titus 2:13)

We have the best King and Leader and Saviour. And nothing will ever alter nor diminish nor endanger nor replace Him. Let’s think about how amazing our King is today. Let’s give thanks for Him and share our hope and joy with others. Let’s set our hearts and minds squarely and firmly on Him; and let His peace and His word rule in our hearts and dwell richly in our minds today in His good and eternal kingdom.

Here there is no Gentile or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all.

Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
