The Passing of Levi

As many of you have heard, Levi VandenBrink passed away in a plane crash last week. Levi was a vital part of our church family during his time at Redeemer University. As his pastor, I watched him engage in the life of the church in many ways. He played bass guitar in our worship band most weeks and served on our parish council. Levi was well-known and much loved in his weekly small group bible study.  Monica, and I also remember many good conversations with him in our home. I can still picture him at our place for Thanksgiving dinner. He was a joy to be around and easy to love.

Levi was one of the kindest, most gentle and caring young Christian men I have ever met. He loved the Lord and looked for His coming kingdom. We will never forget his warm, quiet, welcoming demeanour.

All of these good, godly traits make his sudden passing harder to accept and his short life more difficult to grieve. Only Jesus offers comfort that goes beyond well-wishes and warm sentiments.

Jesus said, “For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.” John 6:40

This is not the last word for our Levi. He looked on the Son and believed. Jesus will raise him up on the last day.

The funeral service is scheduled tomorrow at 4pm and will be streamed at http://www.churchinthevalley.ca/stream/.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Levi to his girlfriend’s fundraiser for epilepsy, Katie’s Run, at http://www.katiesrun.ca/donation.htm

In sure and certain hope,

R.D.
